eleanor and park book review

hello my fellow readers!

eleanor and park by rainbow rowell is one of the best books i’ve read this summer, and i’m so excited to share it with you!

so what’s this story about?

this story revolves around eleanor and park (wow, that was sort of self-explanatory) and their growing high school love.

eleanor’s the awkward new kid that comes to a new school during the middle of the year and is stuck standing on the bus with no seat…that is, until someone begrudgingly moves over — and that person is park.

even though they begin as strangers, they begin to grow and become friends…and then something more? it’s not the perfect love story by far, but in my opinion, it’s better that way.

pros:

this book is set in 1986 – yes, back in the olden days when there were no cell phones and ipods and laptops, and instead, they used things like walkmans (a vintage ipod) and comic books.

it’s refreshing in a way, because of how incredibly real it is.  this was before there was texting, and they actually talk to each other. they have a real relationship, and even though it’s not the perfect relationship, it’s sweet and honestly, it is #goals.

something incredible about this book: it goes through every step of the very familiar phases of having a crush and then actually falling in love.  it’s the pain AND the joy, and you’re literally feeling the same emotions with them.

they also have alternating chapters so you get the best of both worlds – both eleanor & park.

cons:

admittedly, as i mentioned in the section above, the different chapters do get a little confusing if you read too fast.  but that’s on me — i’m a fast reader and sometimes i read a little too fast.

the ending made me cry and was almost frustrating — i mean i was like, are you kidding me? is that it? but it was one that was memorable, and i respect the author’s decision.

overall:

seriously — 4.5 out of 5 stars!! and i’m a harsh critic so this is a good book.

anyway, i can’t say anything without spoiling anything else, but i’m just saying, if you’re a fan of these kind of books, please please check out this book!

as always, thanks for reading!

with love <3
